Harry Potter (1-7) by J.K. Rowling

What made me buy the book – frankly, I saw the movies first. And i wanted to read the book to imagine HP series my way

What I liked about the book – simple language, critique on current issues (fake news, autocracy, corruption) in a way any child can understand

Who will I recommend the book to – an 11 year old especially, so that it can grow along with Harry

What did the book teach me – it helped me realize the joy of reading. I used to read books to learn and escape. But then again, books are much more than that. No wonder when a regime changes, books are targeted first. They’re burnt, dissolved, disowned to the extent that having one in your hand is a revolt in itself. Look behind – Nazi book burning, Nalanda University fires, what not

Shiva Trilogy by Amish

What made me buy the book – herd mentality, everybody was raving about it so i picked it up

What I liked about the book – it is fast paced, and is detailed enough to help one understand the larger than life character

Who will I recommend the book to – anyone who can read

What did the book teach me – books are, interestingly, a marketing tool
