Zanjeer 2013 — Chains needed to hold audiencce

Cast: Ram Charan, Priyanka Chopra, Prakash Raj, Sanjay Dutt, Mahie Gill
Directed by: Apoorva Lakhia
With critics and movie raters giving “negative” ratings to Zanjeer (Rediff gave Zero stars! :O); it is evident that the movie is a candle to the Original Zanjeer. That any movie should not be compared with its predecessors (some may have reservations regarding this), this happens in India immediately you come to know that a film is being remade. Classic examples are a few movies listed below..
Movie
Original Movie
Don (Shahrukh Khan)
Don (Amitabh Bachchan)
Murder 2
The Chaser
Karzzzzz
Karz
Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag
Sholay
Coming back to the objective of this post; yes, the review of Zanjeer. Ram Charan essays the role of an ACP Vijay Khanna who is up against the mafia. Teja (Prakash Raj) is unsurprised to find Vjiay following his scent. Mala (Priyanka Chopra) plays the role of Vijay’s love interest, who has misunderstood Stockholm syndrome to Love. Who’s missing? Barkhurdar.. Next is the entry of Sher Khan (which is not as strong as expected) played by Sanjay Dutt. Even the fight scenes show a lazy Sher Khan galloping towards Vijay as the Twains meet for a fight scene. Bam, Boom, Dishum! Sher Khan joins hands with Vijay and vows to lead a life of honesty and non-criminality. In the later part of the film, we find that Teja murdered Vijay’s parents and what happens when Vijay finds out forms the climax of the movie.
The fight scenes were good, with music inspired from Inception (yes! A bit though). I wish Indian Cinema develops and the audience is bestowed with the ability to skip the songs. The movie apparently ends with Amitabh Bachchan (not sure!) growling “Yeh police thana hai”. Overall, if we don’t compare it with the original – if – this movie is better than Lootera, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobara (at least!). Zanjeer in 1973 established Amitabh Bachchan as the Angry young man. Zanjeer in 2013 has established Ram Charan as.. as.. (yes!) as an IIFA New Comer Award nominee!
Do let me know how the review was!! And, do comment and share!!

Don-2 The King is BACK

Movie: Don-2 The King is back
Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani, Om Puri and Kunal Kapoor
Amid much anticipation and after the game-over of Ra-One, the Baadshah of Bollywood is back; and this time with the police of 11 nations behind him. “Don-2 The King is back” which released on in 3-D and 2-D proved to be a chartbuster. Shahrukh Khan as Don, Priyanka Chopra as Roma, Lara Dutta as Aysha, Boman Irani as Vardhan, Om Puri as agent Malik  and Kunal Kapoor as Sameer Ali together delivered stupendous performances which is evidently seen in the movie.
Plot: The major objective of Don is to dominate the European underworld, which he does by planning to loot the currency plates of Euro from DCB. This he does by teaming with Vardhan. Also, Don brings in Sameer Ali, a hacker to help him loot DCB. Roma is an Interpol agent and is desperate to catch Don alive. How Don loots DCB and commits the ‘perfect crime’ forms the storyline of Don-2.
Action, with Style: The movie begins with a stunning entry of Don in his hermit avatar. The action sequences are on par with those of the Hollywood films; and as the film moves on, we realize that the film has a lot more to show. The iconic locations from Switzerland, Germany and Malaysia are a visual treat. It is apparent that Farhan Akhtar (director) has done his homework pretty well. 3-D was cleverly used to reinforce scenes like throwing of dice and Don jumping from a skyscraper.
The climax of Don-2 in which Don is shown riding a Ducati is highly masculine and it certainly got the girls going wow over him. Interestingly, the number plate of the Ducati was ‘Don 3’. Will expectations come true?! Only time will tell that. The film ends with Don saying the iconic dialogue: “Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi…”
Sadly; the songs in Don-2 were unable to even make our feet tap. Except ‘Maaya’, all the other songs failed to make an impact. Even the title song wasn’t good and it reminded me gravely of ‘Mujhe pehchano’ of AB’s Don. But, the background score was good enough to keep us awake.
Bottomline: Don-2 is enthralling and keeps the viewers at the edge of the seat exclaiming ‘Wow’. The 3-D, as always, helped the viewers getting the ‘feel’ of the movie. Overall; SRK has received his christmas gift and so has the viewers.
